Set Up an Email Address at your Domain Name

This article shows you how to set up an address at your website (bob@bobsbakery.com for example). It looks more professional to have a proper email address, and it also allows you to keep your address when you change to another internet provider. (If you don't like web-based mail.)

The best way to set up a new email address this way, is to use a "Forward". This way, any email that's sent to your website-based address, will be immediately sent on to your regular email address.

If you're not with FatCow, this procedure will be similar, but you'll have to hunt around your web host's control panel, and work it out.

Setting up an Email Forward

  1. In the FatCow control panel, click the "Mail Central" icon.
  2. Click "Create Forward".
  3. Type in admin, or your name, or something appropriate, in the first box (no spaces). Your email will be whatever you typed @ your domain name .com
  4. In the second box, type your real email address.
  5. All mail sent to the first address will be sent to your real email address.
  6. Press Continue.

In your email program (or website), you should change your address to this new address. No one will know it's really a Forward.

Send yourself an email at your new address, and see if it arrives.
